My Top 10 Favourite Wildlife Photographers That You Should Follow on Instagram

In this article, I will share with you my personal selection of the top 10 wildlife photographers to follow on Instagram. These photographers are masters of their craft and are some of the best in the industry. Their work puts the raw beauty of nature on full display.


These photographers have inspired me or/and assisted me throughout my wildlife photography journey. My list encompasses a diverse range of photographers from various backgrounds, all brought together by their unwavering dedication to our natural world and Its inhabitants. Whether you are an aspiring wildlife photographer seeking inspiration, an avid traveller yearning to explore the wonders of the animal kingdom, or simply an admirer of the wild and its magnificent creatures, you will definitely find something to your liking in this list.


Here are my top 10 favourite wildlife photographers that you should follow on Instagram…



Shaaz Jung is a renowned wildlife photographer and filmmaker who has gained immense popularity for his stunning photography of leopards in Kabini National Park, in Southwest India. He is best known for his photographs of Saya, the melanistic (black) leopard in the park. His photographs have garnered international acclaim and have been featured in prestigious publications and exhibitions worldwide. He is one of the first wildlife photographers that I looked up to, and I still do today.



Sudhir Shivaram is wildlife photographer and educator hailing from Bangalore, India. He has become a prominent figure in the world of nature photography, capturing breathtaking images that showcase the beauty and diversity of the animal kingdom.


In addition to his impressive portfolio, Sudhir is also a dedicated photography mentor and educator. Through workshops, tutorials, and photography tours, he shares his wealth of knowledge and experience with aspiring photographers, helping them develop their skills and deepen their understanding of wildlife photography.


I did a workshop in Bandhavgarh National Park with him during the summer of 2022, and it was phenomenal. He taught me skills that I would have never otherwise learned and has helped me whenever I needed it even after the course finished.



Nick Brandt is a highly acclaimed wildlife photographer and conservationist recognized for his distinctive black and white photographs of African wildlife. His approach to photography is characterised by his use of large-format cameras and his preference for shooting in black and white. This distinctive style adds a timeless quality to his images, allowing viewers to connect with the subjects on a deeper, more intimate level.


I particularly like his “Inherit The Dust” series, in which he records the impact of man in places where animals used to roam, but no longer can.



Marlon Du Toit is an accomplished wildlife photographer and safari guide based in South Africa. His photography often focuses on large mammals, particularly the iconic predators of the African savannah, such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Marlon’s photographs exude a sense of intimacy, allowing viewers to witness captivating moments and glimpse into the lives of these majestic creatures.



Gerry Van Der Walt is a wildlife photographer and the co-founder of the renowned wildlife photography and safari company, Wild Eye. Through Wild Eye, he leads photography expeditions and workshops, sharing his expertise and guiding participants in capturing their own stunning images of the natural world. He also has a fantastic podcast and a youtube channel that I have been following and learning from since 2018.



Will Burrard-Lucas is a wildlife photographer, filmmaker, and innovator known for his unique and captivating, eye level approach to documenting the natural world.


One of his notable achievements is the development of the BeetleCam and BeetleCam Remote systems. They allow for up-close and intimate wildlife photography, providing a rare glimpse into the lives of animals in their natural habitats without disturbing them.



Morten Hilmer is a distinguished wildlife photographer and filmmaker from Denmark, known for his breathtaking images of European nature and wildlife. His portfolio reflects his profound connection with nature, with a particular focus on the Scandinavian wilderness. His images often depict the elusive and captivating creatures that inhabit these pristine landscapes, such as wolves, bears, and birds of prey.


Beyond his talent as a photographer, Morten is also a passionate storyteller. Through his films and documentaries, he takes viewers on a journey into the lives of the animals he encounters, providing insight into their world and the challenges they face.



Thomas Vijayan's photography showcases a diverse range of wildlife species from around the globe, from majestic big cats to fascinating birds and elusive mammals. His images go beyond mere documentation, as he possesses a unique ability to encapsulate the spirit and personality of each subject, resulting in visually captivating and emotionally evocative photographs.



Tim Laman's passion for nature and photography has taken him to some of the most remote and biodiverse regions on the planet. From the dense rainforests of Borneo to the rich coral reefs of Indonesia.


His portfolio features a wide range of subjects, including endangered species, birds, primates, and other fascinating creatures. Through his lens, Tim manages to capture not only their physical attributes but also their behaviours, interactions, and unique personalities, creating compelling narratives within each photograph. His accolades include being a contributing photographer for National Geographic and winning numerous prestigious awards for his photography, including Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
