Bird Photography: A Challenging & Rewarding Craft

Over the past year, I have developed a keen interest in bird photography. It all started when I stumbled upon some YouTube channels that showcased the beauty of birds and the best ways to photograph them. I had been doing wildlife photography for almost five years, but somehow never had found much interest in bird photography and birding.

At first, I was mesmerised in by the vibrant colours and intricate details of the birds' feathers. But as I started to experiment with getting different shots and learnt more about the craft of bird photography, I discovered that it is one of the most challenging and rewarding forms of photography out there.

One of the biggest challenges of bird photography – especially when photographing small and jumpy birds – is keeping the focus locked on the subject. It requires patience, persistence, and a deep understanding of the bird's behaviour and habitat. But when you finally capture that perfect shot, it's an incredibly satisfying feeling.

As I continue to learn and grow as a photographer, I am constantly setting new goals for myself. My ultimate goal is to capture a stunning photograph of a raptor or an owl in flight. It's a challenge that I know will take years of practice and patience, but I am excited to continue working towards it.

Last month, I had the opportunity to go on safari in Satpura, India. I was so fixated on photographing a roller that was beautifully perched on a dead tree in the early morning light that I completely missed a tiger sighting that happened only 200 meters away from where we were! Well, I suppose you can’t have everything go your way.
